The Best Weightlifting Lower Back Exercise PDF Print E-mail
Wednesday, 11 June 2008

The lower back is a very crucial muscle to all weightlifters and must be included in all free weightlifting programs.  Without a strong lower back, weightlifters tend to get nagging injuries not only in the lower back, but in the legs and even sometimes in the neck.  That’s because the lower back brings so much stability to the legs and the upper body so without a strong back, weightlifters will be risking their health.

For some reason, weightlifters tend to ignore the lower back.  I believe it’s because they don’t know how important a muscle it is.  I mean it’s not a glamorous muscle like the arms or the chest and it’s not a very big muscle, however this doesn’t diminish the importance of the muscle.  Part of being a strong weightlifter is preventing injuries.

The best lower back exercise to do is the deadlift.  It targets the area very well and there is no better exercise to strengthen the back.  There are two different kinds of deadlifts, the regular deadlift and the straight legged deadlift.  The regular deadlift is intended for those weightlifters who are seeking size and the straight legged deadlift is intended for beginners who are seeking more strength.
